In 1969, at age 16, I migrated from Napoli, Italy, to Bensonhurst Brooklyn, NY with my father, older brother, and two younger sisters. My mother and an older sister joined us a few months later. We all moved into a very small apartment, excited for what awaited us in this land of opportunity.

Back in Italy, when I was a young boy, my father learned the art of making formaggi, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, smoked provola, and many other dairy products. Taking this talent and experience to the USA, my father introduced new dairy products such as those pictured on this website and never took the credit that was due him for creating a new way of shaping mozzarella…

I watched my father and learned from him…and helped him deliver what he made to many restaurants on world-famous Mulberry St., in Little Italy, NYC. Many of the cheeses were still hot when I delivered them!

Today, I am so happy to continue what may father started decades ago—and continue these traditions and all that I learned while working alongside him.

What I am offering now are authentic foods, rooted in Italy, including recipes from my precious Mamma (Nonna Anna). They are filled with wonderful flavors, that everyone will savor…flavors that some may even remember from their youth.

I am proud to continue this flavorful tradition that’s infused into all of our dishes, and sure you’ll enjoy every savory bite!

About Us:
Maybe you are just graduating college intending to start your own business in the years to come, the audacious bucket list you wrote in your teenage years has been in your forethought, or the job that you’ve had for the past 20 years has not been as fulfilling as you were hoping for. Never let the fear of the unknown into the front seat of your life.

To be honest, I (Elisabeth, one of Grind Coffee’s founders) was initially nervous to start v. Our business journey is young. Grind Coffee was established in 2023 with two hopeful hearts responsible for growing a dream into the reality you see today. I believe that our story will resonate with many people for this reason.

Opening a mobile coffee bar as two young entrepreneurs proved to be a daunting yet rewarding challenge to overcome. I’ll never forget the day that Talese, the other founder, came home with a coffee in her hand and asked me a (joking but not joking) question: “What if we open our own coffee shop?” I remember making a wide-eyed expression wondering if she was as serious as I was when I replied “Wait, yes that would be so fun!” Turns out, we were both serious and on the same page from that moment on.

During this time, we lived together in Tallahassee, Florida where I worked at a local cafe. I loved the seemingly mundane conversations with every customer as I tried to steam their latte milk to perfection. I’d be the first to admit that coffee shops are (rightfully so) romanticized in today’s culture. Coffee is a global charm that brings people together! Cafes are the social hubs where first dates, business meetings, book clubs, mom groups, running groups, and last-minute study sessions are centered around coffee. It’s truly fascinating that one beverage can translate across all cultures and facets of humankind.

Our weekend ritual consisted of finding our favorite coffee spots. Just picture two coffee nerds in search of the best iced lattes that Northern Florida had to offer. We found ourselves as far as Jacksonville, Destin, Panama City, and Rosemary Beach. Talese doubled as a best friend and sister-in-law, so we were destined to obsess over coffee together.

Our home Breville espresso machine became our creative outlet as we put together the big picture of opening a cafe. We were over-caffeinated and exhausted at the same time. I’m sure you can relate to this feeling all too well. Our free time was spent diving into the research of opening a brick-and-mortar location for our dream cafe. That research led us to believe that a mobile cafe would be much more lucrative and financially savvy. Little did we know that might have been the best decision we could have made!

One of my favorite trips to date was when Talese and I spent a week at Coffee Fest in New York City. Shout-out to the New York Coffee Fest for connecting us with Dillanos Coffee Roasters! They played a critical role in helping us choose and order our equipment (espresso machine, grinder, puq press, etc). We also had the opportunity to learn from the finest minds the coffee industry had to offer throughout the classes and workshops. It was SO inspiring seeing hundreds of entrepreneurs from all over the country in one place. Like I said before, coffee brings people together!



Coffee Fest New York

At this point, you might be thinking “How in the world did they keep track of finances, build a DIY trailer, and order equipment?” Great question. We also asked ourselves those same questions throughout this process. Fortunately for us, Talese is well-versed in the world of bookkeeping and business. She truly paved the way for Grind Coffee’s financial success!

In late December of 2023, we drove into Georgia to purchase our trailer. This was the moment that Grind Coffee began to feel real, and life seemed to be put in 4-wheel drive! We had our soon-to-be cafe on wheels, making the journey home with us to begin the process of building the counters, installing equipment, and acquiring our licensing.



The Day We Bought Our Trailer

Between January and March of 2024, we spent our time executing our plans and navigating the early stages of opening Grind Coffee. Our friends and family helped us fine-tune the details of constructing the counters and floor plan (neither of our strong suits). This task was tricky because of the limited space a 12’ x 8’ trailer has to offer.

Our goal was to launch Grind Coffee at a spring event on March 23, 2024. We installed the equipment, decals, menu boards and organized the inventory. It became apparent to the both of us early on that business is all about problem-solving issues as they arise (spoiler alert for blogs to come). Our launch day was at a community event where we were told hundreds of people were expected to attend. Should we have chosen a smaller event to launch our opening day? Perhaps. But we were grateful to check off this major milestone that prepared us for the busier days that lay ahead.



Our First Event

The opening day of Grind Coffee is a beautiful blur that we are proud to look back on! We felt the immense support from the amazing community of Tallahassee, FL, from the very first day. Although our mobile coffee bar operates out of a small space, it has become a place that feels most like home to us. We hope that every customer can feel our enthusiasm for coffee, but most importantly for community. After all, coffee fueled the foundation of our dreams to meet every person along this journey.

We are the home of the "original funnel cake sundae challenge" and strive to have new products all the time. Try out our new Sin-on-a-stick, Fried Gummy Bears, or Fried Taffy!

We operate most of the summer in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota, and Nebraska and travel south in the winter to Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida.

Sweet Fun Concessions was founded in 2003 with a small grill, a tent, and a dream. The business slowly built up over time and in 2009 we bought our funnel cake trailer. We sell fresh-squeezed lemonade, funnel cakes, corn dogs, kettle corn, fried twinkies and oreos, and cotton candy.

In 2012, the business expanded to include a Pie trailer which sells most of the menu above, but also includes homemade pie, cheesecake, cinnamon rolls, strawberry shortcake, and brownies!

In 2017, we expanded yet again and added our Frozen Delight trailer, which specializes in frozen drinks, smoothies, and cotton candy.
